By CFR, I refer not to the Code of Federal Regulations, but the far more valuable collection of knowledge found at the website for the Council on Foreign Relations. They have an interesting little colloquy between two China experts on whether China poses a military threat.

Corn-fired Furnace

It turns out that producing heat through pure corn is less than half the cost of producing heat through ethanol. (I don't know if this includes the cost of pollution or not) A corn-fired furnace is a little bit more expensive, and it's more labor-intensive, but it seems to make a bit more sense than oil-fired power plants, at least over time. Too bad coal is still so cheap and dirty.

I put both of my published papers up on SSRN. The most recent one, "Exploit Derivatives & National Security," seems to be a hot topic as of this morning. If all goes well, it will be published in the Yale Journal of Law and Technology this spring.
