Surprise!

Continuing its steam-rolling of the divestiture, AT&T today announced that it would acquire its former sister company, Bell South, in a deal valued at $67 billion. (That's with a B, folks) The pressure's on for Verizon to snap up Qwest.

Commodity market? - Scale play like Sprint Nextel?

It's more than a "Sextel" scale play because the fixed costs are much higher, and there's far less competition. The other consideration is whether VZN will buy Qwest, thereby giving VZN all of the west coast international lines, and AT&T all of the east coast ones.
